Our farm is always growing, changing and improving. In the past we have offered clinics, day trail rides and weekend trail rides for folks with their own horses. But as we grow older and top quality horses are harder to located, we have had to give more time to horse procurement. While we all miss the events, but our top priority must be offering quality horses to our camps and customers.
Winter Activities:
In Vermont, somewhere between winter and spring fencing, is a season known as “sugaring”. Many Vermonters tap their Maple trees to gather the sweet sap and boil it down to the elegant maple flavored syrup.
Here at Rustic Man Farm that tradition is also alive.
Will Bricker began his fascination with sugaring while still in elementary school by trying to evaporate the water from the sap on an old barrel stove in the garage. Back then, Sap was collected from buckets on the trees with the reluctant help of his Shetland ponies, Princess and TooToo.
This initial disaster leads to a real back yard evaporator. Will put it under his the swing set/climbing structure which he renovated while his mom was away at work! Luckily, Will perfected his techniques. Building a new proper sugar house and wood shed became his high school senior project. In 1996 the members of the Orange County Sugar Makers honored him with the Coveted “Ray Foulds Award for Young Sugar Maker of the Year”.
So today as an adult, Will is busy at work producing delicious Maple syrup. His current sugaring operation at Rustic Man Farm now boasts over 2800 taps on pipe line, a stainless steel arch and stainless pans to “evaporate” the sap into the sweet maple syrup that is available locally and on line at www.equinegiftboutique.com.
And the proof is in the tasting!
local visitors to the sugar house enjoy Raised Donuts dipped in newly made Maple syrup.
